# Check in a child

When a child arrives, scan the parent's QR code or check the child in by hand, then confirm you have read the child's safety information.

## Check in with a QR code

The parent shows a check-in QR code on their phone in the DropIn app.

1. Open the scanner:
   - **On a computer:** click **Scan QR Code** at the top of the left sidebar, or on the **Today** tab of **Bookings**.
   - **On the phone app:** tap the round QR button above the chat bubble on the **Home** or **Bookings** screen.
2. Point the camera at the code on the parent's phone. If asked, allow camera access.
3. Read the child's information on the **Check In** screen.
4. Tick **I have reviewed this child's safety information**.
5. Tap **Confirm Check-In**.

You see a message that the child is checked in, with the time and the room. Tap **Scan Another** for the next child, or **Done**.

## Check in without a QR code

Use this when the parent cannot show the code.

1. Find the child's booking in the **Arriving** column (or open the booking).
2. Tap **Check In**. The scanner opens.
3. Tap **Manual Check In / Out**.
4. Follow steps 3 to 5 above.

If you opened the scanner another way (for example with the round QR button), **Manual Check In / Out** shows a list of the children booked for today. Tap the child, then follow steps 3 to 5 above.

## What you check at check-in

The **Check In** screen shows:

- The child's photo, age, age group, room and booking time.
- The parent's name and phone number.
- **Health Alerts** for allergies and medical conditions, in red. If there are none, you see **No known allergies or medical conditions**.
- **Dietary Needs**, **Medications** and **Special Needs**.
- The **Emergency Contact**. If none is saved, it says **Not on file**.
- **Guardians / Authorized Pickup**.
- **Parent Authorizations** and **Topical Applications**.
- **Parent Notes** for this booking.

## When check-in is blocked

A child cannot be checked in if an enrollment form is unsigned or expired, or if the birth certificate or immunization records are missing. The card shows **Forms missing**, and check-in shows **Can't check in [child] yet** with the list of missing items.

Ask the parent to open the DropIn app and go to **Account**, then **My Children**, then the child, then **Enrollment Forms** or **Documents**. When they have added the items, try again.

## Scan errors

If a scan fails, you see the reason, for example:

- **Booking not found.**
- **This booking is for [date], not today.**
- **This child is already checked in.**

Tap **Try Again** or **Close**.
